Nove Mestro Prague
Prague's Nove Mestro, or New Town is one of the best places in the city to wander around. This district was established in 1348, and has since become the commercial core of the city. This district is where you can find buildings constructed hundreds and hundreds of years ago containing trendy retail outlets and American chain stores.
Running through the center of Nove Mestro is Wenceslas Square, named after the Czech ruler and saint Wenceslas whose statue adorns the area in front of the National Museum. The square is the hub of the district, complete with department stores, casinos, restaurants, cafes and hotels. Having a drink and bite to eat in one of the cafes here and just watching the passing people can make for a fun afternoon.
For a bit more serenity head to the Franciscan Garden, a beautiful rose garden kept by the city's monks. There is also a memorial in Nove Mestro dedicated to the hundreds of citizens who were beat by police in 1989 during the Velvet Revolution, which led to the collapse of communism in the Czech Republic.
Whether you want to or not, you can't miss Gehry's Dancing House, the warped, dream-like building that graces the corner of Resslova and Rasinovo nabrezi. Located inside here is one of Prague's most acclaimed Restaurants, La Pearle de Prague, which offers up beautiful views of the city along with delicious cuisine.
