Frank Gehry
Born in Canada in 1929, Frank Gehry is known throughout the world as one of the most respected, innovative and creative architectural designers in the field. He studied at Harvard, focusing on Urban Planning, before moving to Los Angeles, and later to Paris, where he lived for a year. He returned to Los Angeles and set up his own architectural firm, and has been astounding the world ever since with his beautiful buildings.
Gehry's buildings have been praised for their unnatural yet beautiful architecture and unfinished style. He often uses unusual materials such as chain link fence, and his buildings have been made to resemble items such as binoculars or sculptures. Instead of simply seeing a functional building, Gehry sees the opportunity to create intelligent art on a huge scale.
Buildings attributed to Gehry's genius include the Dancing House in Prague (or Fred and Ginger, as it is affectionately called), Santa Monica Place, the Chiat/Day Office in Venice, California, and the Steel Worker's Monument in the National Building Museum of Washington, DC.
